The tech giant champions open innovation in corporate machine learning

At the technology summit, IBM's David Cox showcased a convincing case for transparent advancement in enterprise artificial intelligence. The executive, Vice President of machine learning frameworks and director at the MIT-IBM Watson AI Lab, emphasized the significance of collaboration in innovation, notably in the modern AI landscape.
Cox highlighted the nuanced nature of openness in AI, challenging the binary view of the principle. He observed the burgeoning community of transparent systems from multiple providers, including technology corporations, academic institutions, and countries.
However, he expressed concerns about the standard of transparency in numerous Large Language Models, noting that a number of them deliver scarcely more than a collection of data points lacking transparency in their production methods.
